New Year, new perspective
You may have been lucky enough to get a bit of time out and extra breathing space over the festive period. Taking a step back, reflecting and gaining perspective are so important for all leaders of social change. But we all know how difficult it can be to hold on to that sense of perspective once you are back into the flow of hectic office (virtual or otherwise) life.
The need to step back and get a fresh perspective on how organisations are doing is the inspiration behind the Lucent Compass. A customised insight tool, Lucent Compass quickly helps senior leaders get their bearings on an organisation’s strategy and where most attention is needed.
Luen Thompson, CEO of Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, was among the charity leaders who helped us shape the tool. She explains, “Having the time to reflect on the strengths we can build on as well as areas where there is more work to do has been a really important step.”
Amy Gibbs, CEO of Birthrights UK, also provided feedback and trialed the Compass with her staff and trustees at an early stage. “The Lucent Compass gave me an objective and in-depth review check on staff and Trustee views of our strategy,” says Amy.
Since using the Compass, both Luen and Amy have been able to make practical changes to help bring greater clarity and focus to their organisational strategy. Clients particularly value the combination of an independent web-based survey of staff and trustee views, together with an in-depth session with Lucent team to discuss key themes and to provide a steer on the way forward that clients find of real benefit.
A fresh perspective can also bring unexpected benefits. For Amy it meant having to cross at least one thing off the list of things that kept her awake at night. She explains, “Lucent Compass signalled that there were things worrying me that were not in fact an issue for the team or Trustees and showed me where to focus my time and energy moving forward.”
